Very early in the morning of November 20, 2018, I turned off my computer. Microsoft automatically downloaded a “critical update.” Two hours later when I tried to use the computer, I could not. I could not leave the startup page. I haven’t been on the computer since that morning. I am now using our local library’s computers and have not yet decided if I will try to have my computer repaired. However, it is time to start blogging again. Since I also can’t get into my old Microsoft accounts, I’m starting a new blog as of Saturday, May 4, 2019.

I created a “Wall of Shame” a few years ago for really horrendous Legislative votes and Governor’s actions. It is time for a “Hall of Honor” for actions above and beyond the call of duty. The first such “Hall of Honor” goes to the Mayor and Trustees of the Village of Morton, Illinois who prohibited marijuana businesses within the village limits the same day that the law went into force. The mayor proposed the ordinance and the Trustees passed the ordinance 6-0. The “Hall of Honor” not includes the El Paso Mayor and Council.

month, on June 25th, Illinois Governor JB
Pritzker signed legislation to
approve so-called ‘recreational’ marijuana for persons 21 years old and older
[Does the law define “recreational” marijuana?]. When this law (HB 1438 Senate Amendment 2)
[The law is 609 pages long.] takes effect on January 1, 2020, it will allow the
licensed growth, sales, possession and use of marijuana.[Although
without question the unlicensed growth, sales, possession, and use of marijuana
will continue and may well increase. How effectively will the State of Illinois,
which is already billions of dollars in debt, enforce the licensing
requirements? This law necessarily increases the size of the bureaucracy in
Illinois. I don’t think the use of marijuana is licensed but I didn’t read the
law to find out. The concept is to treat “recreational” marijuana similarly to
alcohol and, of course, the use of alcohol is not licensed.] The Land of
Lincoln becomes the 11th state to legalize this dangerous intoxicant for
recreational purposes [Has anyone EVER defined recreational purposes. Is the
use of alcohol for recreational purposes?].
The
federal government still classifies marijuana as a schedule 1 drug [Yes, it does.],
which means it remains illegal [under federal law.]. According to the DEA website [Drug Enforcement
Administration], ‘Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as
drugs with no
currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse [From
the website of DEA, “Some examples of Schedule I
drugs are: heroin, lysergic
acid diethylamide (LSD), marijuana (cannabis), 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (ecstasy), methaqualone, and peyote.”].’
There
is, however, a way to mitigate the consequences of this destructive policy. The
bill that was passed by the General Assembly and hastily signed into law by our
governor allows villages, cities and counties to opt out of marijuana retail
sales [More than that according to Morton’s ordinance. It allows the local
government to prohibit any business activity involving marijuana including the
farming of marijuana.]. If you do not want marijuana addicts and recreational
users driving in and out of your community regularly to purchase drugs, this
important option must be considered [As far as I’m concerned, must be passed.].
Take
ACTION: Ask
your local mayor, village trustees, aldermen and county board members to pass
an ordinance prohibiting marijuana dispensaries and marijuana businesses in
your community. The Village of Morton in central Illinois is the first
municipality to pass such an ordinance [My hometown. Its quick action earned
Morton’s Village Trustees and Mayor my first “Hall of Honor” award. El Paso is

]. Their ordinance can serve as a template for other communities: Click HERE for this sample

Once
it is introduced, ask local pastors, local law enforcement officials, doctors,
counselors, fire chief and emergency personnel, teachers, school
administrators, activists and others in the community to write letters and
speak at public hearings in support of a ban on marijuana sales [The more the
better. Elected officials need to know that this law legalizing “recreational”
marijuana is not wanted.]. Cover this entire process in your prayers. Pray
especially for the wisdom of local officials who must vote on this proposal.
Background
Today’s
high potency marijuana is linked to increases in addiction, psychosis, schizophrenia and violence. States that
have legalized it have seen an increase in emergency room visits, hospitalizations,
poison
control center calls and an increase in use in every age category,
including youth [Exactly, it will be like the illegal use of alcohol by minors.
Legalizing it tells minors that it is NOT considered dangerous or harmful by
the State of Illinois.]. There has also been a dramatic increase in a condition
called Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome.
As
perceived risks are blunted by this law, we fully expect an increase in users, addicts,
unqualified
employee candidates, intoxicated drivers, work place accidents, disabilities,
homelessness,
mental
illness and social welfare dependency. We expect to see marijuana
use among
people 25 and under—those whose brains are still developing and whose brains are
most susceptible to the harms of marijuana use—dramatically
increase.
Please
take action to
diminish the consequences of recreational marijuana in your community.
It is
important to note that Governor Pritzker worked diligently for
this legislation, working with the Illinois Senate and Illinois House sponsors
of this bill to secure its passage. NPR [National Public Radio] Illinois even
highlighted the ‘Marijuana Moms’ who
led the charge: Illinois State Senators Heather Steans (Democrat
[Leftist socialist]-Chicago) and Toi Hutchinson (Democrat
[Leftist socialist]-Olympia Fields), and State Representatives Kelly
Cassidy (Democrat [Leftist Socialist]-Chicago) and Jehan
Gordon-Booth (Democrat [Leftist
socialist]-Peoria). How mothers of any political persuasion could promote this
dangerous policy is baffling [These same “mothers” also support and promote the
murder of babies within the womb. It is part of the agenda of Leftist socialists to
legalize dangerous, addictive substances. It is ALL about control of the populace.].
Furthermore,
it is important to point out that six Republicans [Republicans-In-Name-Only?] also
supported this
regressive policy to make our highways less safe and to enslave our neighbors
to addiction and mental illness: Illinois State Senators Jason
Barickman (Bloomington), Neil Anderson (Moline), Steve
McClure (Jacksonville), and Illinois State
Representatives Allen Skillicorn (Crystal
Lake), Lindsay Parkhurst (Kankakee),
and David Welter (Morris) voted in
favor of this anti-family policy [These six need to be primaried in the next
election in the Republican primaries.].
In
their desperation to find a new revenue source to fix the financial mess they created
(and/or to promote a so-called “social justice” antidote),
these lawmakers failed sorely in their job to protect Illinois citizens
[Absolutely. The
primary purpose of local governments, State governments, and the
federal government is to protect the people under its jurisdiction.].”
