Very early in the morning of November 20, 2018, I turned off my computer. Microsoft automatically downloaded a “critical update.” Two hours later when I tried to use the computer, I could not. I could not leave the startup page. I haven’t been on the computer since that morning. I am now using our local library’s computers and have not yet decided if I will try to have my computer repaired. However, it is time to start blogging again. Since I also can’t get into my old Microsoft accounts, I’m starting a new blog as of Saturday, May 4, 2019.

I created a “Wall of Shame” a few years ago for really horrendous Legislative votes and Governor’s actions. It is time for a “Hall of Honor” for actions above and beyond the call of duty. The first such “Hall of Honor” goes to the Mayor and Trustees of the Village of Morton, Illinois who prohibited marijuana businesses within the village limits the same day that the law went into force. The mayor proposed the ordinance and the Trustees passed the ordinance 6-0.

PEORIA — Legal sales of recreational cannabis are to begin January 1 in Illinois. But they won’t be beginning in the Woodford County city of El Paso [Another city joining Morton in sensibly prohibiting marijuana businesses.].
The City Council approved a ban, effective in late July, on business establishments connected with legalized pot. Those include retail dispensers, cultivation centers and processors.
The vote among the six council members was unanimous [Very good. It should be.]. The El Paso mayor, J.W. Price, also endorsed it [Unanimous. In Illinois, mayors usually are not permitted to vote unless to break a tie.].
‘The council and majority of our citizens feel cannabis is not a productive drug to produce, use or sell [That is for sure. It is also STILL illegal at the federal level.], and we do not want our community endorsing the usage,’ Price stated last week in an email.
At least one other community in the Tri-County area has banned recreational-pot businesses. The Morton Village Board approved a prohibition last month [Morton probably was the first in the State. It did so the first day of the new law.].
Illinois municipalities [And county governments too.] are allowed to opt out of allowing sales of recreational marijuana. That provision was part of legalization legislation Governor JB Pritzker signed into law in June.
Naperville is among Illinois cities and villages that have rejected recreational-use sales [There should be a multitude of other local governments who prohibit marijuana businesses.]. Other locations are expected to consider the option, although Chicago doesn’t appear to be one of them [It should be. It has more problems than it can handle NOW. Marijuana businesses will, no doubt, increase its problems.].

What does that mean?]. Since 2014, medical marijuana has been legal in Illinois [Which was the foot in the doorway. Now, Leftist socialists are pushing the door open. It’s past time to push back.].
Price, who also is an Illinois State Police commander, noted the federal government still recognizes cannabis possession as grounds for criminal prosecution [It most certainly does.].
‘The city of El Paso sees no benefit in endorsing the violation of federal law, even if the state of Illinois does not have a problem with it [The State should. This law is a violation of every Illinois elected official’s oath of office.],’ Price stated.
According to Price, there had been rumblings about cultivation-center owners seeking property in and around El Paso, which has about 2,800 residents.
The city’s location along Interstate 39 and between Bloomington-Normal and Peoria might attract such businesses, the mayor speculated [El Paso is about 31 miles northeast of Morton according to Bing maps.].”
